Our Chair at the UNESCO World Futures Day in Paris

On December 2–3, 2025, events on strategic thinking and building the capacity to anticipate social, technological, and environmental changes were held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The UNESCO Chair for Social Sustainability was represented in Paris by Prof. Małgorzata Guzowska.

The main point was World Futures Day 2025, celebrated on December 2 under the title of “Anticipation in an Era of Volatility”. Its aim was to discuss the role of foresight and futures literacy as key competencies supporting public policies in conditions of growing uncertainty and global transformations.

The program included expert presentations and panel sessions on topics such as the impact of artificial intelligence on the future of humanity, challenges in education and management in times of dynamic change, and strategies for strengthening the resilience of public institutions. During the event, the importance of building international cooperation was emphasized, and UNESCO announced the establishment of the Global Anticipatory Policy Coalition, aimed at developing the exchange of knowledge and good practices in the implementation of foresight in state structures.

A day later, on December 3, 2025, a meeting entitled “Collaborative Anticipation and Responsible Futures” was held, organized by the Center of Excellence (Pôle d’Excellence) bringing together French UNESCO Chairs in the field of futures literacy and foresight. The event consisted of thematic sessions and workshops devoted to the development of responsible foresight practices in areas such as: the responsible use of AI in education, multilateral peacebuilding, adaptation to climate change, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.

The conference and workshops were attended by representatives of UNESCO, national delegations, academia, and foresight practitioners from various countries. Discussions focused on the possibilities of building anticipatory capacities in public and private institutions and on the role of social participation in designing responsible visions of the future.
