Conference ‘Sustainable Development of the Berlin-Szczecin Axis’ in Szczecin (23-24 September)

Researchers focused on sustainability from universities of the Polish-German border region met in Szczecin to discuss the most important challenges of the region’s development. The conference was jointly organized by Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, University of Szczecin – UNESCO Chair for Social Sustainability, West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin and University of Greifswald. Konferencja została wsparta finansowo przez Deutsch-Polnische Wissenschaftsstiftung | Polsko-Niemiecka Fundacja na rzecz Nauki

The conference provides the opportunity for discussing problems, concepts and solutions regarding a sustainable development along the bi-national Berlin-Szczecin axis. There are already initial ideas and approaches, but these are quite heterogeneous and tend to focus one field of activity, on one country, or one scientific discipline. Building on joint projects and previous cooperation between Polish and German universities, we aim at bringing these different perspectives together, focus on this common metropolitan area including rural areas and explore starting points and synergies for overarching concepts. Topics can be models for a „circular society” towards a sustainable transformation, alternative economic and supply models, cross-border cultural learning networks as well as socio-cultural and environmental questions. One aim of this interdisciplinary conference is to expand and link existing scientific networks in order to prepare joint applications and projects for the future.
